Phaethon caving lamp is a headlamp built for cave diving and caving exploration.
The engineer and manufacturer of the lamp are Elias Kazais and his collaborator Komninos Boutaras. Both are very close friends and co-cavers for almost two decades. We were together in some of the big cave exploration in Greece, in Cretan mammoth caves Gourgouthakas, Tafkura, Lion cave and others.
Elias had already produced some prototypes when I offered to help the team with modern 3 dimensional design. The result of the collaboration was the phaethon caving lamp, as it is sold today. It is considered one of the best cave diving headlamps in the world and in 2016, Xavier Meniscus, a diver from France, broke the world record in depth in cave diving, having successfully dived in a depth of -262m in Font Estramar, France, using phaethon caving lamp as his headlamp.
