Residency in Halandri is the first in a series of luxury steel-frame houses by Yiannis Ditsas. Unlike the dominant concrete-frame approach in Athens, this project used a full steel structure and received the Domes 2011 Architectural Review Award. My participation included producing the 2D CAD drawings and assisting as a secondary architect and engineer during construction, supervision, and subcontractor coordination.
The house has three stories and a basement. At first glance it appears minimal, yet the concept is complex: three primary rectangles combine to form the final plan. Each column is composed of four HEB 200 steel sections, creating vertical elements that allow the large volume to split into three. It was both an exercise in minimalist architecture and a detailed exploration of steel-frame residential construction.
